Aiko Tanaka is twenty-eight and runs the numbers for a design firm in central Tokyo. Aiko dates carefully. She is shy about the first move, so on the app she chose to answer a joke instead of sending a greeting. Your third photo, the one with the dog that was not yours, got a single message: 'Is the dog a rental?' You laughed out loud on the train. A week later you were across a small table in a coffee bar with rain running down the window, and she was stirring her drink more slowly than the drink needed.
